Wings3D is a 3D low-poly modelling freeware that primarily makes use of subdivision techniques for modelling. This allows for complex shapes created out of specific parameters. It is a useful choice of modeler for Active Worlds due to its export support for both RWX ASCII files and DirectX ASCII files. It is open source and coded in Erlang, meaning it can be easily extended upon to support future Active Worlds formats.
It is also available in numerous languages, such as but not limited to French, Italian, Chinese and Russian.
Features
- From the official website
- Context sensitive interface
- Configurable interface and hotkeys
- Wide range of Selection and Mesh tools
- Exports to common 3D file formats like .obj
- UV mapper, Vertex Colors, Materials, and Lights
Limitations
- Cannot be used to animate or pose avatars (both legacy and skinned)
- Does not import RWX nor DirectX files; it is recommended to use another tool such as AccuTrans 3D to convert meshes to a Wings3D importable format such as .obj
