Running?

AWCom was a comprehensive community service launched by GSK in February 2014. AWCom was conceived out of the need to have an updated community directory and to allow citizens to add their own content quickly and easily. Since then, AWCom has introduced a streamlined design, a revival of Hyper Anthony's Ultimate User Guide, and over 150 panoramics of worlds and locations (including NewAW).

In August 2014, AWCom became integrated into ActiveWorlds.com, though this partnership ended in May 2015. It was replaced by the Warehouse, part of the MyAW network of services.

Components

Survival Guide

The AWCom Survival Guide was a free browser modification which enhances the included user guide by adding most of the same content available on the AWCom website, while also preserving the original Ultimate User Guide by Hyper Anthony and the official guide by AWI. The AWCom Survival Guide takes the place of the existing user guide, which may be found in the AW tabs menu by pressing F9 and looking under the 'User Guide'/'Help' tab. It was discontinued in September 2014.

History

The original Ultimate User Guide was developed in October 2009 by Hyper Anthony. The idea and concept were based on an Ultimate Teleports List which was produced and published by SW City in the early 2000s. Much of their original content has been ported into the latest incarnation of this guide.

Active Worlds often features major events and a section is typically included in the weeks before the event to provide in-browser information for users that are planning to attend. To date, this type of handbook guide has been created for the 2010 AWReunion and 2010 Cy Awards. This information is then removed in versions released following the event.

In 2014, AWCom adapted the Ultimate AW User Guide into the AWCom Survival Guide and released the first new version in three years.

Awards

Hyper Anthony's Ultimate AW User Guide won the Best Bot/Software category in the 2010 Cy Awards.
