Cy Awards Ceremonies
2006 Cy Awards is part of a series.

The 2006 Cy Awards were held on June 1, 2006 in CYAwards world. The Cy Awards are held annually and are decided through community voting for the best entry in a number of specific topics. Attendance peaked at 210 users.

The ceremonies were MC'd by Lady TeaL, which was her first performance in that role.

History

The stage of the 2006 Cy Awards.

The fate of the Cy Awards was a topic of hot debate a year prior to the 2006 ceremonies, when Alphabit Phalpha declared on March 11, 2005, that the Cy Awards would be retired despite recently being handed over to Lady TeaL. The decision was made due to each hostesses increasing challenge to maintain a virtual presence due to real-life obligations, and further due to a poor showing of community response in the nomination process. AlphaBit Phalpha also maintained that AWI should make a decision over the matter of ownership of the Cy Awards, believing herself to be the owner of the event.

There was much debate over the matter and ultimately, the 2005 Cy Awards never came to be. This event was an important catalyst for the breakout group Support AW to make a push for it's own awards ceremony, the Support AW Awards. These stood in contrast to the Cy Awards due to a system of panel voting by qualified judges rather than a larger community vote, and enjoyed moderate success and approval from the community.

Later in the fall of 2005, the issue of ownership was resolved through the efforts of Lady TeaL and Strike Rapier when AWI agreed that 'no one person could end the CYs.' Strike Rapier was originally slated to have a large role in the organization of the ceremony, however differences between the leadership led to his resignation from the Awards, leaving them to continue -- and ultimately reach fruition -- under the leadership of Lady TeaL who continued on to organize and revamp the Cy Awards for 2006.

The Event

Over 200 people showed up for the awards ceremony, causing irreconcilable server problems during the first attempt to hold the ceremony. A decision was made to postpone the awards for a week to resolve the server problems and during the next attempt things went very smoothly. Voting and nomination were radically upgraded for these ceremonies by Tengel, who integrated the aforementioned systems with the Cy Awards website -- a system still used today. This year was also the first year R-rated worlds were allowed to participate.

Passing the Baton

AlphaBit Phalpha officially "passed the baton" of the Cy Awards to Lady TeaL in a formal speech at the beginning of the 2006 ceremony.

AlphaBit Phalpha:	I would like to thank the Cy Team for inviting me to speak tonight....and thank all of you for not falling asleep during my speech...lol
AlphaBit Phalpha:	Wow...it feels really strange being up here tonight and not having had anything to do with the organization of the Cys this year!
