Announcement

Winter world's Annual Theme Park Competition 2009

Stretch your V4 muscles and join the 1st Annual TPC event in Winter coming this summer on June 26th 2009!

Bring your friends (and foes!) to compete in this team building contest where competitors will build rides and attractions side by side in a large theme park setting. Adding to the challenge, teams will build in odd sized lots numbering 100 cells in size which interlock like puzzle pieces with other team building areas. Teams will not only build rides and attractions but all the trappings of theme/amusement parks like concession stands, restaurants and gift shops.

Team sign-ups, as well as single citizen sign-ups, can be accomplished by going to the Active Worlds Forums and posting on Winter sub-forum stating what citizen accounts will be a part of the team, as well as team name and if you will allow single citizen entries to join your team if your team is not already full. Single citizen entries will be assigned a team, or may request to join an already existing team. Teams should be fully formed and ready to go on June 26th. However, citizens and teams may still join during the competition while being informed that they will have less time than those that started on time. Teams will consist of between 2 and 4 citizens. Team accounts with privilege password will be given out to Team leaders who will be responsible for giving the privilege password to their team members as well as the security of it.

The competition will last for about 6 weeks overall, with the first 4 weeks (June 26th to July 24th 2009) being used to actually build the majority of the team projects.

The remaining 2 weeks (July 24th to August 9th 2009) will be used to finish, clean and tweak the details of team builds.

Judging should begin the following week.

Requirements

  1. 2 working rides ie. roller coaster, or merry-go-round...etc
  2. 1 restaurant
  3. 1 set of bathrooms
  4. 1 street of gift shops
  5. 1 rest area
  6. 1 park
  7. 2 concession stands

Each team is allowed to choose whatever complexity they wish.

Nothing in the rules states that any of these can not be combined.

As long as a judge can see each required item and check it off the list, then a team has met the minimum requirements. Please do not feel boxed it by these minimum requirements. Please be creative.

Judging

Prizes were announced May 29th 2009, and generously contributed by AWI. They consist of 6 to 12 month citizen extensions, P-10 worlds and V4 Rights.

  • 1st place Team: (12 months of Citizenship OR a 6 month P-10/5) per team member.
  • 2nd place Team: (8 months of Citizenship OR a 4 month P-10/5) per team member.
  • 3rd Place Team: (6 months of Citizenship OR a 3 month P-10/5) per team member.

V4 Rights (1 AWI world only) will be granted to all top rated Teams as judged by AWI.

First, second and third prizes will be Judged by

Judges will score the builds between 1 and 10 (10 being best) in inventiveness, quality, and use of the theme. These numbers will then be averaged for each category and then added together to create a score between 3.0 and 30.0. The top 3 scores will be the winners. If there should be a tie, then AWI will make the final decision between those teams that tied.

Teams will have an area the size of a P-5 world (10x10) to build 2 rides with line mazes, 1 restaurant, a street of gift shops, 2 concession stands, 1 set of restrooms, 1 small park and 1 rest area... all of which can overlap and co-mingle and which should, in theory, mesh with other competitors areas. Teams are encouraged to go beyond these minimums, but are not required to.

The Caretakers of Winter and AWI would like to invite everyone to join in this competition no matter what their skill level. Competitors have nothing to lose, but could win toys (worlds and v4 rights) and win up to a year of citizenship in Active Worlds!
