Governor-General

In the UIP Government, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of the United Islands of Pacific is the official recognized head of state. Until 1945, like most British colonies, the Governor-General historically used to be the representative in the United Islands at federal/national level of the Pacifican monarch (the last being King George VI) but the title of Governor-General remained into modern politics of the state.

He or she exercises the supreme executive power of the Commonwealth. The functions and roles of the Governor-General include appointing ambassadors, ministers and judges, giving Assent to legislation, issuing writs for elections and bestowing honors. All these things are done and all these posts are held under the authority of the Constitution of the United Islands. Further, the Governor-General acts as vice-regal representative to the Panala Capital Area territory.

The Constitution grants the Governor-General a wide range of powers, but in practice he or she follows the conventions of the Westminster system with some exceptions and acts usually on the advice of the Prime Minister of the United Islands. Even in the appointment of the prime minister, the Governor-General rarely exercises any discretion, usually appointing the leader of the largest party or coalition of parties in the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of the United Islands is the head of government of the Commonwealth of the United Islands of Pacific, holding office on commission from the Governor-General. The office of prime minister is, in practice, the most powerful political office in the United Islands.

Barring exceptional circumstances, the prime minister is always the leader of the political party or coalition with majority support in the House of Representatives.

Jane Kelly Ki'Lura is the current and first Prime Minister. She is the leader of the House of Representatives since 2006.
