The following guidelines have been organized and proposed for a formal procedure in regards to Administrator Nomination. This allows for members of the community to nominate users to Administrator (SysOp) status.

Pre-requisites

The following guidelines must be met by the candidate before consideration. Note that any arbitrary, numerical requirement may have room for give if the user is exemplary in other areas.

Desire to become an Administrator

Users can be nominated by any user to become an Administrator. They can nominate themselves, or be nominated by another user. If they are nominated by another user, they must express interest on the talk page of the nomination before the voting process can begin.

6 months experience with the Active Worlds technology

This can be verified through immigration date or build dates within the Active Worlds Universe, or other universes or galaxies. This guideline is in place to ensure that the user has had adequate experience to be both interested and knowledgeable on the overall subject of this wiki.

2 months experience with the ActiveWiki

This condition notes that 'experience' is determined by the candidate's first edit on the ActiveWiki. This guideline is in place to ensure that the user has had adequate experience with the wiki software, and understands it enough to perform their duties.

75 edits/contributions to the ActiveWiki in the past six months

This condition ensures that the user has adequate experience with the wiki software and is an active, contributing member of the community. This condition is not required of existing Administrators, who are not required to be consistently active. It is noted that this condition must also be met in a reasonable time-frame before Administrator nomination, so that the community can see a longstanding interest in contributing to the community.

Basically, if you ramp up your edits over the course of the week and then throw up a self-nomination, everyone can see what you're doing. And everyone can see that it's garbage.

Nomination Procedure

Upon approval of this policy this text will be retroactively edited to reflect the current nature of wiki procedure

Once a user has met these guidelines, they may be nominated as an Administrator. Administrator nominations are a community vote that will be open for two weeks. During the voting process, users are encouraged to asked questions of the nominee, comment about them, and otherwise discuss their merits as a potential Administrator.

To nominate a user, go to the Promotions page and begin a new header under the Current Nominations header. Note: A self-nominee that does this incorrectly will have their nomination immediately rejected on grounds of incompetence.

Please follow the directions in the Example Nomination below to ensure proper formatting and easy reading for community voters.

Example Nomination

User:Example User

Description: In this area, the nominee would be described based on their merits or achievements. For example 'I am Example User and I have been a member of AW for 3 years. I've been on the wiki for 2 years and through my many competent and helpful edits I hope to demonstrate that I am capable of being an Administrator.'

  • Yay - I've seen Example User's work. They do a good job. --LikesThisGuy 22:16, 7 August 2010 (EDT)
  • Nay - Who is this? I've never seen them here before. --Who?? 22:16, 7 August 2010 (EDT)
  • Yay - Yeah sure. This guy helped stopped all of the wig vandalism last month. --GoodKid 22:16, 7 August 2010 (EDT)
  • Nay - Stopped? He was part of it! --NoWay 22:16, 7 August 2010 (EDT)

Approval

Once the two weeks are up, if the nominee has passed a simple majority vote, then the record of the nomination and discussion will be sent to AWI for approval. Upon AWI approval, the user will become an Administrator.
