2001 is the 6th year since Active Worlds came into existence (at first AlphaWorld prior to 1996). May also be known in some cases as year 6 in Active Worlds.

- Stoneridge, SW City's fifth subcommunity, is founded by Rae.
April
- April 1
- SW City's 2nd Birthday Bash kicks off! It's a week of fun and games and lasts until April 7.
- April 6
- OniLink immigrates to Active Worlds after winning a citizenship during SW City's 2nd Birthday Bash: citizen number 335093.
June
- June 25
- Saddle Creek founded by OniLink. It's named the first public sector (suburb) of SW City.
August
- August 8
- SW City's government is documented for first time. New Hierachy adapted. 5 new "districts" formed. Central District (to include the newly formed subcommunity Central SW City and the public sector Saddle Creek), Estate District (to include Syntax Estates), Palm District (to include Palm Grove), River District (to include James River and Oceanside remnant), and Ridge District (to include Stone Ridge).
- August 11
- Silver Valley founded as SW City's second public sector by Nutinmuch and becomes part of River District.
September
- September 28
- New SW City website design released. The color scheme has been changed to use primarily blue and black colors.
October
- October 6
- Silver Valley, a public sector (suburb) of SW City, is upgraded to subcommunity status after nearly two months, becoming SW City's sixth subcommunity and the fastest citizen-built area to graduate from public sector (suburb) to subcommunity in SW City's history. Nutinmuch becomes a manager on the SW City staff.

- SW City releases its census results:
- Central District: 66
- Estate District: 59
- Palm District: 26
- River District: 37
- Ridge District: 19

- Cypris Creek is founded as a viceroy territory of SW City by Vornox and is placed into Ridge District.
