2003 is the 8th year since Active Worlds came into existence (at first AlphaWorld prior to 1996). May also be known in some cases as year 8 in Active Worlds.

• March 24
  • SW City's 4th Birthday bash kicks off and lasts until March 29. These things happened:
    • Residential contest in Cypris Creek.
    • Industrial contest on Hyokia Island, Palm Grove.
    • Wacky Races
    • Games Night
    • The Amazing SW Race (a spinoff of the CBS TV show "The Amazing Race").

August

• August 8
  • SW City debuts their very own radio show. SW Chris, SW Comit, Goober King and Captain MAD Mike participate in discussing such things as AW v3.4, AWRPG and thumb drives.
• August 29
  • A new suburb in SW City is created by Ferruccio named Castle Pines, making it the fourth citizen-built area to become a suburb of SW City. Castle Pines becomes part of the Estate District.

September

• September 9
  • The first Submin is built by Espilae.
