Could you by any chance upgrade the version of MediaWiki? There are security issues with this version as well as many feature enhancements. --Brian 22:17, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
- Hey Brian, welcome to the Wiki. Though the community is actively working on maintaining the content of the wiki, AWI usually leaves us to our own devices. If you could recommend what we ought to move on to, I can forward the advice to them so they can get it up to speed. Thanks for the heads up! --Hyper Anthony 22:39, 19 April 2010 (EDT)
- When I try to access the community portal from the navigation in Firefox, I get a message saying "The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.". Kevin Morrison 17:17, 25 October 2010 (EDT)
- We're working on it. Thanks for the notice. :) --Hyper Anthony 17:20, 25 October 2010 (EDT)
- Redirected the sidebar and the issue should be corrected now. --Hyper Anthony 17:27, 25 October 2010 (EDT)

As of 25th Oct 2010: If you switch to Vector layout in your preferences, the layout will be formated better. Due to script updates of the Wiki it appears that the format for other layouts are broken. ~Chris
- Vector layout is what's used on Wikipedia, and it's very nice and Web 2.0ish. I'll be getting with Flagg again tomorrow to work out some bugs with the wiki, and possibly the forums, and I'll mention this to him, if he hasn't noticed yet. -- GSK (talk ● evidence) 00:47, 26 October 2010 (EDT)
- The tables on the front page mess up a bit for me in the vector layout. I'm sure they'd be fine with some tweaking and I wouldn't mind having that changed to the default layout. :) --Hyper Anthony 01:46, 26 October 2010 (EDT)
I am a returning member from the 1995 era... things have changed quite a bit! Time to check it out again!
I saw on the list of new features for 5.3, the following:
All web content, incuding flash, renderable on 3D panels.
Does this mean that we can take a url and have it displayable on the surface of an object, say like a desktop? If this is the case, can you also click on a link on the web page to go to another page?
Thanks
[Tim]
Wiki Updates
Since the AW homepage had been redesigned in June 2013, and all AW services have been moved to new servers in February 2014, some hard-coded links in this wiki may be outdated.
Since the last post on this page, wiki scripts have been updated several times 2012 and 2013, last time Jan 2014, to the latest versions of media-wiki, PHP and mysql.

Adding a page in html and being able to edit same.
Hey HA. wantd to post a worlds list page here that I am updating .* Updated World List
Can you tell me if that is possible and how I'd edit it and update it here after each updte on the page itself?
Thank Doug / DMC2U
- Hi Doug,
- Sorry for the long delay... I'm not around as often as I used to be. At any rate, to answer your question... if you wanted to edit both pages at the same time (I'm assuming through some sort of automated process?) it would probably be easier to update the wiki Worlds page and then setup a program to scrape the information to your own site. We've had difficultly getting bots on the wiki in the past without AWI cooperation... and I don't think anyone still there really knows much about the wiki software.
- There appears to be an RSS feed associated with the history of each article that could be used to construct the scraper if the editor were to include the contents of the article in their changed comments... here's an example of that. http://wiki.activeworlds.com/index.php?title=List_of_Worlds&action=history&feed=rss
- As a final note, I would caution against putting any off-site redirects at the top of a wiki article... there are numerous potential security issues with that (someone could come along later and change the URL) as well as semantic issues (What if you stop updating the new site) that have, in the past, made the common formatting for off-site links be a header towards the bottom of the page, usually addressed as Related Links.
