Check out this video tutorial to get started in Active Worlds!!

What is Active Worlds?

Active Worlds is a 3D virtual social network made up of various worlds. They can represent anything an individual or a group wants them to represent. The world themes can include almost anything, from chat worlds to worlds where you can build in. Worlds can be created to play games, or run a business, or to host virtual meetings. Some of the most popular themes include chat worlds, building worlds, party and event worlds, and game worlds.

What can you do in Active Worlds?

Because Active Worlds is set up as a social network located in a virtual universe, there is quite a lot that you can do inside the browser. Some of the most popular activities include:

  • Chatting and making friends
  • Playing, such as driving cars or flying airplanes
  • Games, such as Zookeeper and Paintball
  • Creating new fashions with Custom Avatars
  • Building, such as making a house or even an entire city
  • Learning, such as with the Educational Universes
  • ..and even Conduct Business in a virtual world!

While those are the most popular things to do, there’s much more that can be done. Some other activities include:

  • Taking photos and making movies
  • Creating 3D models
  • Participating in Roleplay Games
  • Riding on rides
  • Exploring
  • Networking
  • …and virtually anything else you can imagine.

Once you enter the Active Worlds Universe, your character will initially show up as a virtual representation of a 3D humanoid. These characters can be changed by using the Custom Avatar menu, by selecting a pre-made avatar from the Avatar Drop Down Menu, or by creating a paid personal avatar in some instances.

Each different world offers a variety of premade avatars. In older worlds, these include the standard original avatars from when the world was first formed. In newer worlds, updated and highly detailed avatars can be found.
